Private midwives in independent practice offering care in Poole Bournemouth and surrounding areas of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

We are two very experienced midwives who have chosen to work in private partnership, outside of the National Health Service in a self-employed capacity. Our professional practice is guided by the Midwives Rules.

We believe passionately in a woman’s ability to birth her baby and we provide support to enable her to make informed choices on how and where to birth. We feel that women have the right to be cared for by midwives who truly understand the physiology of natural birth and do nothing that interferes with that process. We respectfully support partners too.

We are highly skilled in homebirths, specializing in the use of water in labour and provide pools for our clients. We are happy to care for women who have previously had a caesarean section or a traumatic birth experience. We can care for you in hospital if you feel that is best for you, either as a midwife or sometimes as support person and advocate.

Our ethos is to provide private one to one midwifery care by someone you can trust, who understands you as a person, knows what you want and truly respects your wishes. We can offer care from pre-conception right through until the baby is about one month old.

During pregnancy we will visit you at home for antenatal care at times to suit you and your family. Most visits last about an hour so that we have time to chat and get to know each other so that when you go into labour we already know your wants and wishes. We will arrange all necessary care including ultrasound scans and blood tests and will come with you to scans and consultant appointments if you wish, acting as your advocate. We will check on the wellbeing of your baby and you, referring for a medical opinion if necessary and with your agreement.

 We will be available by phone and make a commitment to be available for your baby’s birth, providing all the necessary equipment and expertise.

After the birth we will stay with you until you are tucked up safe and comfortable with your baby. We visit daily for the first few days and then as wanted or as neccessary for up to a month. We are committed to enabling successsful breastfeeding can give you lots of advice and support to help you get off to a good start. We have excellent relationships with local Breastfeeding Counsellors and Lactation Consultants as well.

Quite a few women book us much later in their pregnancies, having realised that they would like the kind of care we provide.
