OCTOBER 2000>>>>>>> ALBUM
SPRATLEYS JAPS album "PONY" All My Eye And Betty Martin Music - A glowing, tingling jewel of warmth and creativity, a rare thing, a totally unique album. To experience Pony is to peer through cracks in the stained glass in to a completely different world. Actually, no, it's not a different world, it's the world that's around us if only we could see; it's the things in the corner, it's the things the insects are doing, if insects were as big as cows then we'd have no problem in noticing all the things they do, the colours they reflect, the webs they get caught in. Spratleys Japs present things you already know about in a completely different way. Most of Pony seems to have been inspired by the noises made by a beautiful broken melotron while the rats watched and the sparrows conducted wars. Spratleys Japs is mostly the work of Tim Smith, he of Sea Nymphs and other things. Pony is like climbing in to a loft that hasn’t been visited by human hand or eye for many a year. Pony is the things you find under the dust and the cobwebs, faded by the cracks of bright bright sunlight, disturbing the moths and the mice and the amazing musical boxes that play when you open them. Pony is a unique, delicate, English album, a warm, glowing album, an album in a time all of it's own, Pony is a thing of utmost beauty, a thing to celebrate, a thing to share with everyone. www.anyware.co.uk/japs |
