I’m using iTunes 10 and I still have this problem. I guess the above solutions don’t work with Apple’s long term strategy for one or another reason? Why else could be the reason for not fixing this?

The same here ! This is exactly what I’m looking for ! If you have any solution for this .. I’m very interested ! Apple TV, iMac, PowerBook, iTouch & iPad .. all keeping in Sync and updated & back-ed up . a bit of pain !

I hate this… Windows media player and other mp3 players handle this so well… I have always hated itunes and the use of it i avoided. I finally decided to get an ipod for some of it smarter features that were not available of a few mp3 players i had. The only reason I got the ipod is that I recently bought a mac as well. I was happy that i would not have to install itunes on my pc and was hoping for the perfect chemistry…

If i would have known about this, i would have scratched it off the list as it was barely even on…

APPLE, SCREW THESE IPADS AND MESS AND MAKE ITUNES BETTER… It constantly updates, but is never fixed…

ping?! better would be network music…

A lot of us have network servers and such… but i guess since apple did not make it, it is not relevant….

I concur, big issue and seems like it should be pretty simple to fix. With that said I work for the parent company of IOMEGA and they are now shipping an NAS device with an ITUNES media server built-in to the O/S. It should be the central repository for Itunes content and then you can access via local itunes. Should help this situation. I just ordered mine, I’ll repost how well it works.

So I’m not the only one who thinks this way.

I managed to do all this stuff under Windows using some tiny freeware utils but I’m completely stuck since moving to Mac.

Have you come up with a workable solution? please share

Hi Marc,

nice articulation on the lack of a centralised media repository synchronisation by Apple. Would you mind sharing your current solution for this issue, as I have the exact same environment.

Would love to compare notes and war stories.
