Thank you people of America
The world lets out a collective sigh. Thank you to all those people who voted and haven’t previously. It matters a great deal to us residents of the rest of the world!
Now we have a couple of things to look out for… first, will the voting problems still be investigated and then resolved by the new government. It could be the win would have been even more striking without the voting problems. Whatever, it is unlikely the vote is a completely accurate representation of the choices of the people.
Second… will Obama actually make a difference, or cave in to all the usual lobbying pressure.
There’s a very interesting film online about voting problems in USA:

Thank you once again America.

November 5, 2008Most American’s don’t think twice or care how European’s view our politics. Sorry.
Voting problems are few and far between. You are watching to much propaganda. The most respected national poll, Rasmussen, had the exact spread for the election 52% to 46%. So there is no difference between that poll and the election results.
Obama is the most liberal American president elected since FDR. It is hard to know what he will do given his very short resume. I’m sure all the special interest groups that have supported him will expect him to deliver their agenda. The problem for Obama is the weak economy will keep him from implementing a lot of that agenda. So I think many of his supporters will be disappointed in the end. For better or worse, the realities of being the President of the U.S. has a way of moving you to the center of the political spectrum, whether a Republican or Democrat.
Things will not change as much as you think they will.

November 6, 2008Rick – your first sentence pretty much explains what’s been wrong in the world for the last 8 or so years.
Voting problems are propaganda? Many Americans disagree with you – see here:

That shows that the Election Protection gang received 1895 calls this election about problems with voting machines – including incorrect selection of candidates. These are not individual peoples’ complaints – more often than not complete machine failures etc.
That is a tiny proportion of all the calls they received – over 86000 – although the causes are varied.
For the record… I didn’t say how much I think things will change
